Leaves are Changing!

With autumn officially here and the temperatures dropping, the leaves in northern Minnesota are changing! Last year was breathtaking (see 2012 photos below) and I’m looking forward to shooting them this season. Northern Minnesota has some of the most spectacular vistas, trails and drives from which to experience the autumn leaves. The amazing scenery of the north shore of Lake Superior, and the drastically different, but equally beautiful country inland, especially the Boundary Waters and surrounding wilderness, are not to be missed. Palisade Head, Oberg Mountain, Secret Blackstone Trail, Grand Marais, and many other locales are some of my favorite spots. Also, many of the seasonal food and lodging establishments in the area remain open through this beautiful time of year, so you can still grab some gourmet and country dining after a long day of exploring!

These photos are from last year, 2012, when I had a very intense weekend photographing the leaves at their peak along the north shore and in and around Ely. I am so excited to photograph the colors in the northland again. September 29-October 1st was an amazing few days to be photographing. Not only were the leaves gorgeous, and the sky a deep blue, but I was also lucky enough to be out when the auroras burst through the moonlit sky near Grand Marais! This small collection of images focuses on the north shore area.
