Friends of the Boundary Waters, an advocacy group based out of Minneapolis, MN, does a lot of good work to help share the story of the Boundary Waters, and to promote good stewardship of the beautiful place we all have access to. Lately, they’ve been pumping out a lot of great content and providing fantastic resources to paddlers of canoe country and beyond.
They recently published a digital guide to the Boundary Waters, complete with a ton of information that’ll prove useful to novices and well-seasoned paddlers (and hikers) alike.
I’m proud to say that one of my images from a resupply trip to bring gear into Dave and Amy Freeman on their Year to Save the Boundary Waters was used on page 18. On a page that talks about packs and how to properly carry your stuff, this photo fits beautifully. Laid out in front of me in the Northstar Northwind are four full-size Frost River packs. Some might say we overpacked, but we were happy with what we brought, and were of course hauling stuff for folks other than just ourselves. That, and the snows weren’t yet done falling, made us happy to have those extra layers, and extra Bent Paddle growlers.
